Taking a Liver Scan with the FibroScan® 502 Touch
LiverScan is a painless procedure that uses ultrasound/ transient elastography to measure liver stiffness (fibrosis) as well as fatty liver score (steatosis). The quicker the wave travels, the stiffer your liver is and the more scar tissue you have in your liver.
Liver scans with the FibroScan® 502 Touch
Our goal at LiverScan Australia is to ensure we provide the most accurate liver testing with a non-evasive and stress free procedure.
To this end we have invested in a FibroScan® 502 Touch. The FibroScan® 502 Touch system is a non-invasive elastography device used for the detection and clinical management of liver disease. A FibroScan® 502 Touch liver examination is a simple and pain free procedure.
The LiverScan Procedure
A LiverScan test generally takes between 5 and 30 minutes. Please ensure you have nothing to eat, drink, chew or smoke for a minimum of 4 hours prior to your procedure.
You’ll be asked lie down on your back and with your right arm raised behind your head. Our registered liver nurse will apply a small amount of water based gel and place the probe at a precise point on the patient’s right hand side with slight pressure. You may feel a gentle vibration at the site of the probe, which generates a vibration wave.
Ten consecutive measurements will be made at the same location. The device will measure the state of the liver globally, as opposed to a biopsy where only a very small sample is measured.
The test takes about 10 minutes, and the result is delivered immediately at the end. It will be a number between 1.5 and 75 kPa. The results are immediate and can help doctors decide what to do next – whether treatment is required and what treatment is best for the patient.
The sooner you know the state of your liver, the sooner you can act to prevent irreversible liver damage. A liver scan test gives you a quick and easy way to get an accurate assessment of the state of your liver.
